Take It Back to November 16, 2016

After spending every Sunday coming up with a cleaver article about the media, I have realized that through this process I have learned a lot about the different elements when it comes to media. These blogs have helped me understand how mine and others' lives are being effected by media today. The things that I have taken away from creating these blogs each week is how much media I consume and how you many need certain traits when it comes to understanding media in any form.

Over the past couple of weeks I have realized that I come in contact with a lot of media each day, sometimes I spend so much time with the media that it becomes very unhealthy. I use my phone or other types of technology mostly during the end of the day, since I have school. I believe I spend about 4 hours or more with media during the weekdays, but on the weekends I think that I may spend more time that usual with media. Since I spend many hours on my phone it cuts into how much time I have to do all my school work. All the time I tell myself that I need to change and make my school work my top priority. I haven't made a change to the way to decide to do my homework, which is probably the smartest thing to do.

When I am using the media there is always some type of advertisement that catches my eyes, whether it's on TV or social media. I realize that from learning so much on advertisement I tend to pay more attention to all the commercials on TV instead of changing the channel immediately. For example, the other day I say a Geico commercial and I was able to know the implicit and explicit message that the company was trying to give off. There are times when I see commercials and I tell myself that the commercial has nothing to do with the product that they are advertising.

I believe that it is very important that consumers are well educated, since your education on the media can help you make some good decisions. An educated consumer would not be persuaded as easily compared to a non-educated consumer because they will be able to tell when they need a product. Also these educated consumers wouldn't be fooled by certain appeals or techniques that are incorporated into an ad.

In the end, after writing all my blogs I feel that I have learned a lot about the media throughout this quarter. The things I learned from these blogs is the amount of media I consume and how my life will always be surrounded by media.

YOU ARE DISGUSTING

As I've gotten older and have spent many years with media I have noticed that women seem to be a main target for when it come to getting compliments or judgement on social media. One day on youtube i noticed this video that talked about the topic on how judgeful the media can be. The video was called You Look Disgusting and the title is perfect for this video. After watching Missrepersnetation in class I immediately thought about this video. In this video it shows a girl that posts a picture of herself online without makeup on. After she posts her picture there are many mean comments saying that she's ugly and that she should be wearing makeup, but soon later she posts a picture of herself with makeup on. Once her picture with makeup on is posted the same things happens to her again, she revives hate comments, so now people are telling her that she is wearing to much makeup. So in the end either way this girl was being judged for who she is. When I finished watching this video I realized this probably happens a lot on social media, but I have never expericened this situation myself. I feel that people on social media should keep their hate comments to themselves because they never know how a person could interpret your judgement.

Women Through Media's Eyes

After watching the video Missrepersentation in class, I did agree with majority of the things they were saying within the video. One topic that they kept mentioning was how insecure many girl or women are today. I feel that many girls get to this point in life because they are so influenced by all the media that they are surrounded by. On social media you see all they famous women, that are from vine, youtube, or modeling, that are really skinny and I'm sure that many girls see these people and think that they should be like these famous people. I feel that kids, girls especially, are being influenced at a young age that in order to be pretty you have to be skinny and have long hair, but that isn't the truth. Women/girls need to accept the fact that they are beauty inside and out no matter what other think. We are only changing ourselves to please "others" not ourselves. Some people go through pain and eating disorders because they want to look they way that the media considers pretty. In the end I think women should accept themselves for who they gruel are.

Long Live the Sacramento Kings

NBA may not be a real tv show, but it is something that I enjoy watching. My favorite team to watch would be the Kings, even though most of the time they lose. The Sacramento Kings just played the Warriors and I got my hopes up thinking they were going to win since the Kings were up at half time, but obviously the Warriors came back for the win. I like to watch the NBA because I love basketball and it's a great form of entertainment. I think basketball is the best sport to watch on tv or in person because everyone is constantly moving and there are a lot of points scored per game. The Kings may not be the best team but I always enjoy when they get a win. My favorite player on the team would be Demarcus Cousins, since he is a beast. Cousins' attitude on the court sometimes get out of hand, which is one characteristic that I dislike about him. When ever I watch the Kings games I notice that Cousins is the most dominate player on the court. Whenever Cousins dunks on an opponent it brings a smile to my face. I have been watching NBA my entire life and I will continue to keep routing the Kings for as long as I live. During my lifetime I would like to see the Kings make it to the playoffs, so there better be a miracle.

What Did We Do to Deserve This Man

This week Ed Sheeran came out with two new singles that I immediately fell in love with. I have been listening to Sheeran for a while now, and I'm always pleased when I listen to his music. I enjoy listening to Ed  Sheeran's music because it is very soothing and it calms me down when I listen to it. When I was writing my essay for Mr. Tagg I chose to listen to his music while writing it, so it would help me feel less stressed out. Some people may think that listening to music while doing homework may distract a person, but for me it's the opposite since it can help me consecrate. But it really depends on what music I listen to. For example, when I do my homework I can listen to anything and if I'm writing an essay I usually like to listen to slower songs. Even though most of Ed Sheeran's songs a slow I still manage to keep listening to his songs over and over again. When his album X came out me and my friend spent the entire summer listening to all the tracks on that one album. When you listen closely to his lyrics they can sometimes be very meaningful. I know that his song Little Bird was about how he literally found this baby bird and took care of it, but it ended up dying. His songs seem to tell a little story about himself and that's a factor that enjoy about his songs. I appreciate all the songs that Ed Sheeran has published and I would recommend his music to anyone.
